A Brumal Cold

Brumal Cold

Your word
written of winter...
I know,
for when revealed
beneath its blanket
movement dies.
Solstice flaps along behind
subdued in a drone of shuffles,
muted whirrs subconsciously engraved,
systematically filed away.

Your meaning shrouds
that snow alone will comprehend,
but there's a brumal cold
with primal roots grown wild
inside the hearts of men.

Your voices
to god and goddess beckon
lilting the lithe tempest to falter;
Boreas mistral melancholy,
writhing abstract boorish
in your boundless halter.

Your rhythm infamous
abysmal horn insane...
the cadence rasps within us,
blasphemous
like norskehavet waves
whose tsunamic elevations surpass
even Night's dominion,
encompassing even the compass rose's
four~cornered gaze.

Your word
written of winter...
I know,
for when the song resounds
against a morning's milky rime
pasts are chiseled into present
lineage of glacier's slow divide
unmasking liquid reflections
and facets of forever

sounds that tick
words that tock
and drums that die together.

This is one I keep in the cooler, to keep the others at a temperature where they won't spoil so easily. I've learned to wear shorts in surprisingly cold weather in the last year or so. This is so important moving forward, the time drawn further & out by that 'frosting age'....it's useful for me to conjure a little June in January but I must never forget January come June.

Wonder why it doubles every comment I make. Hmm...

Excellent tribute. For Ihsahn and Ihriel? Cold, yes. Always cold. That is my wish. I think I may have read this through once before, but I'm glad to revisit it.

I hope you are well.

To them both. So rare for someone to know of whom I speak. I am well. I hope the same for you, friend.

Oh! tpu. Hello. It said you were Zabs and I didn't recognize that. Had no idea you wandered these halls. Yes, I am well. And yes I hope the same to you. \m/

Excellent piece, structure, format, even the occasional rhymeage in an otherwise free verse environment, a complete poem in my opinion, very well penned.

I find structure is very difficult for me. It's interesting how the poet can know the flow, but it doesn't translate to others. It's a delicate balance, and I was pleased with how this came out. Thanks.

An old one, from a frosting age...
